Paula's Bennett's escort May 1st, Piha
Guess who was there at 9.30am? And why would they come to this isolated beach side spot at this time on a Saturday morning? The police car was the first to be there.
Then I saw Paula quietly entering the building. But then she disappeared and I wondered if I had seen a mirage.
We waited for ages for Paula to re-appear and give her address, but she was nowhere to be seen.
Finally we caught sight of her in a little alcove in the corner of the hall talking to her local supporters one at a time. It was only a clinic not a meeting.

Chatting with National supporter at Bennett's Clinic
One of the women waiting at the Clinic said she wanted to talk to Paula about benefits. Interested, I asked her what about? She said she was a trainer of beneficiaries and the problem was how they wanted to keep on studying rather than taking jobs. One of our members, a student, said that since there were no jobs to go to, wasn't it wise to keep trying to develop skills that might help us to find a decent job? I was amazed at this woman's attitude towards her own students. She seemed to view them like very bad children who needed to be firmly controlled.
Early Morning Piha, Paula Bennett Challenge
On May Day, International Workers Day, Unite Waitemata members went out to Piha Surf Life Saving Club to challenge Paula Bennett at a meeting. However she was just having a clinic, so we chatted for a while to some of her supporters including a trainer of beneficiaries-who viewed her students' desire for education with suspicion and contempt. She wanted to talk to Paula about how to get them out of education faster! The police were parked below at 9.30 am at this quiet isolated western beach. After enjoying the beautiful view we went across the road and held up our banners. We will be back, Paula!
